The World Health Organization has stated that there is no evidence of a larger outbreak of hantavirus following the confirmed infection of a British woman on a remote island. The patient, whose identity has not been disclosed, remains in a stable condition at a medical facility on the island.

Hantavirus, which is transmitted through rodent droppings and urine, can cause severe respiratory illness. However, the WHO noted that the case appears to be isolated.

Local health authorities have implemented containment measures, including trapping rodents and advising residents to avoid contact with animal waste. The British woman is believed to have been exposed while cleaning a shed.

The UN health agency emphasised that the risk of further transmission is low, given the virus does not spread easily between humans. They continue to monitor the situation closely.
